We had a busy weekend with Larry and I playing golf on
Saturday and then visiting with Rick and Linda Jordan for dinner Saturday night
and Sunday church and lunch afterward. We really enjoyed our visit with the folks
at Southwest Bible Fellowship.
Monday we packed Larry off from Phoenix back to Florida and
then Rick acted as our tour guide around the area. We visited Tortilla Flats
and other local sights which was a good introduction to the area for us.
Neither Kathy nor I realized how big Phoenix is. With about six million
residents it is one of the major megalopolises in the USA. The other thing we
discovered is that Phoenix is REALLY spread out, making destinations like the
Skyport Airport quite a journey. We enjoyed our visit but I don’t think I would
want to live there.
Our next destination was the Lazy Days RV Park in Tucson,
AZ. Kathy had a dear friend from NY living in Tucson so we spent a few days
here. We made a side trip to Tubac, AZ near the Mexico border with a stop at
the San Xavier Mission. While I am no big fan of the Roman Catholic Church, it
is interesting to observe the historical impact of the Mission programs in
establishing settlements in the Southwest. We had dinner one night with Rosie
and Doug and then the girls took the dogs to a Self-serve Dog Wash for a do.
Kathy is so enamored with the concept that she wants to open a business. Oh my.
Our plan is to proceed somewhat directly to Winter Garden. Both of us are tiring and ready for home, however as we pass interesting locales (like New Orleans) we will tarry a day or so along the way.
